Arsenal’s inability to convert chances, in addition to making crucial errors, ended their European dream for another season, as a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven saw them crash out of the UEFA Champions League 2-1 on aggregate.
The match was dominated by PSV defender Alex who scored both goals in a contest that, pretty much like the first leg, was dictated by an Arsenal side that has all the promise in the world but precious little of the killer instinct that separates good sides from the great.
Interestingly, when Alex put through his own goal in the 58th minute it looked as though Arsenal’s luck has changed at the right time but with seven minutes to go, Arsene Wenger’s side went to sleep at a free-kick and the big Brazilian was able to atone for his earlier error by heading past Jens Lehmann to send his side through.
All in all, Arsenal misery has come to an end at least for this season as they are out of every competition and lying fourth in the Premiership table.
