British dream team of Murray and Henman out of the Pacific Life Open

It was terrific sight especially for British fans while it lasted but Tim Henman and Andy Murray’s doubles experiment has come to an end. The Britons lost 6-3, 6-4 to the seasoned partners Max Mirnyi and Jonas Bjorkman in the quarter-finals of the Pacific Life Open.

Generally speaking, Britain’s present and former No 1 are friends, occasional golf partners and of course great admirers of the other’s talents, which probably explains why they gelled as a team from the moment they walked on court. But while their talent as singles players was enough to carry them through a few rounds in the doubles, it was back to square one when they meet the best team in the world. Though, it was enough to secure a place for either or both of them in John Lloyd’s Davis Cup plans for the tie against Holland in April.

Earlier, Henman and Murray were twice a break up in the second set and twice they were pegged back. They had chances to take a 4-3 lead but once that had slipped from their grasp, they were in serious trouble. Though, They managed to save two match points but that was not enough to stop the world No 1 and No 2 from taking their place in the last four.
