Australia lost their number 1 one-day ranking for the first time as Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton and Craig McMillan propelled New Zealand to their huge target of 337 with an over to spare to secure the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. Ross Taylor’s century bettered the one Australian captain Michael Hussey had made to set up Australia’s big total, which until New Zealand’s chase was the highest ODI score at Eden Park.
Earlier, a brilliant century from Michael Hussey and a composed Brad Hodge innings set New Zealand a massive 337 to secure the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at Auckland. Hussey’s 105, backed up by an unbeaten 97 from Hodge ensured Australia rocketed to 336 for 4, in theory the highest total ever recorded in an ODI at Eden Park.
After loosing finals against England in Commonwealth bank series and players like Brett Lee and Michael Clarke injured, Australia is struggling both with bat and ball. With World Cup just around the corner, not a good sign for World champions.
