Svetlana Kuznetsova once again showing his rich vain of form this season defeated upcoming talent Czech Nicole Vaidisova 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the WTA Pacific Life Open. This victory means that second seed Kuznetsova, the 2004 US Open champion, moves to the semi-finals of the 5.3 million dollar hardcourt tournament where she will play Sybille Bammer.
According to Kuznetsova,
“The match was high quality and to win it I had to put something into it,” Kuznetsova told reporters. “I couldn’t just defend. Usually I dictate and today she was doing that. She has extremely good strokes and serves well.”
Kuznetsova continued her dominance over world number 10 Vaidisova, winning all three of their career meetings. This was more or less a repeat of last year’s Roland Garros semi-final and the first time they had met outside of a Grand Slam. In addition, Kuznetsova also won on the grass at Wimbledon in 2005.
