UTV Software Communications has entered into a co-production agreement with 20th Century Fox to fund M. Night Shyamalan’s next film The Happening. According to report, UTV and Fox will equally co-invest in the $57 million movie venture. The spec script thriller movie that Shyamalan wrote, and will direct in Philadelphia this August, is aimed at a June 2008 release.
It is worth mentioning that UTV has already collaborated with Fox Searchlight and Japanese producer Entertainment Farm to co-produce The Namesake, an adaptation of Pulitzer winning novel by Jhumpa Lahiri. The movie, directed by Water fame Mira Nair, was released in the US on 9 March and will arrive in India on 23 March.
Following this will see the release of Chris Rock directed and acted I Think I Love My Wife. Theoretically speaking, it will be released in the US with over 1800 prints and then worldwide between April-June with another 1200 prints.
Initial indications are that The Happening is a 90-minute paranoid movie.

’Water’ was directed by Deepa Mehta, not Mira Nair...
